Early detection of depression,
in a conversation you can actually have
EmpAItica listens and gently screens your wellbeing in a spoken conversation, in German or English. Your results are written into your clinical record, so your doctor sees them and the conversation leads somewhere.
A few minutes. No waiting list, no appointment to book first.
In Germany you wait months for a therapy place. A check-in should not have to wait with you.
Screening is the cheap part of mental healthcare. It should not be the part people cannot reach.
Who EmpAItica is for, and who it is not for
Screening is not the right thing in every situation. It is more honest to say so here than after ten minutes of conversation.
You are in the right place if
- Something has felt off for a while and you want to put a name to it
- You are waiting for a therapy place and want something in the meantime
- Your doctor asked you to check in regularly between appointments
- You would rather talk than fill in a questionnaire
Not the right thing if
- You are in immediate danger, or thinking about harming yourself
- You need a diagnosis; only a doctor or a psychotherapist can give you one
- You are looking for therapy; EmpAItica does not treat
In an acute crisis call your local emergency number. In Germany, Telefonseelsorge is free and answers around the clock on 0800 111 0 111.
Three steps to being heard
Sign in and choose what you share
You see what is collected before anything starts. The camera stays off unless you switch it on, and you can change your mind at any point.
Talk naturally
A spoken conversation, at an unhurried pace. You can interrupt, pause, or type instead of speaking. There is no form to fill in.
See your result, and so does your clinic
Your PHQ-8 score in plain language, your history over time, and the same result in your clinician's file so the next appointment starts from it.
Listening, sensing, screening
A real conversation
A spoken dialogue with an animated companion that keeps the thread, waits when you pause, and stops talking the moment you start.
- No questionnaire to fill in
- Interrupt it and it yields
- Or type instead of speaking
Three emotion signals
EmpAItica reads the tone of your voice and the words you choose, and the camera too if you turn it on. The reading is placed on the Russell circumplex, arousal against valence.
- Voice tone and words
- Camera optional, off by default
- Russell circumplex model
PHQ-8 screening
The Patient Health Questionnaire, answered through conversation instead of a form, scored the same way and reported in plain language.
- A validated instrument
- Severity scale 0 to 24
- Trends tracked over time
What happens while you talk
- A live emotional readTone, wording and, if you allow it, facial signals are placed on the Russell circumplex as you speak.
- A PHQ-8 scoreEight items, scored 0 to 24, drawn from the conversation rather than from a form you fill in.
- A path when it mattersIf you say something that suggests you are in danger, the conversation stops screening and hands you help, and the moment is recorded so your clinic can follow up.
Lately I have been having trouble sleeping, and most mornings feel pretty heavy.
Against what is being done today
Two approaches are already in use. Both have their place. The difference comes down to a single row.
| Paper questionnaire | Self-help app | EmpAItica | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it is answered | Ticking boxes in the waiting room | Forms inside the app | By talking, in a conversation |
| Does the result reach the doctor | Only if someone types it up | No, it stays with the patient | Yes, as a PHQ-8 in the clinical record |
| Between appointments | Nothing | Exercises, with no feedback to the practice | A history both sides can see |
| Emotional signals | None | None | Voice tone and wording, camera optional |
| When someone is in danger | Noticed if somebody reads the sheet | Usually a notice in the text | Screening stops, help is offered, the clinic sees it |
What each side gets
The same product, seen from two chairs. What the patient does between appointments, and what that turns into on your desk.
For patients
On the web and on iPhone, in German or English.
- A spoken check-in with a companion that waits and does not rush
- A PHQ-8 result in plain language, not a number without a meaning
- Your own history, so you can see whether things are moving
- Book an appointment with your doctor, online or at the practice
- Video consultation from the same app
- Help reachable the moment a session suggests you need it
For clinics
A portal your team signs into, not another inbox.
- Your patient roster with severity visible at a glance
- PHQ-8 history, emotional read and a summary of each session
- A printable report you can put in the file or hand over
- Publish your availability, propose appointments, run the video call
- Invite doctors, manage the team, assign patients to a doctor or the clinic
- FHIR records and a partner API, so the data is not locked in
Clinically grounded, and honest about its limits
An aid, not a diagnosis
EmpAItica is a screening and early detection tool. It is not a diagnosis, and not a replacement for a therapist, a doctor or emergency services. If you are in crisis, call your local emergency number. In Germany, Telefonseelsorge is free and answers around the clock on 0800 111 0 111.
Private by design
- Encrypted in transit and at rest
- Built to the GDPR, with consent recorded before anything starts
- Camera opt in, and off by default
- Delete your account and everything in it, from the app
EmpAItica is built by Actimi
Not a spin-off and not a side project. Actimi already runs telemonitoring in German clinics, with the devices, the logistics and a connection into existing systems.
An MDR-certified medical device
Actimi's telemonitoring platform is certified as a medical device under the MDR and is GDPR compliant. For chronic heart failure it is reimbursed in Germany.
In clinical use since 2021
Founded in Stuttgart in 2021, today a team of several dozen. Patients measure daily with certified devices, and Actimi handles shipping, replacement and support.
Open rather than closed
A patient app, a clinician portal and an HL7 FHIR interface into existing software. EmpAItica runs on the same architecture, which is why a PHQ-8 result lands where you already look.
We are looking for clinics to build this with
EmpAItica is early, and that is the offer. A clinic that comes in now shapes what gets built, talks to the people building it, and gets the screening done before the patient walks in.
Results where you already look
Each session writes a scored PHQ-8 into the patient record as a FHIR QuestionnaireResponse and Observation, alongside the emotional read and a summary of what was said.
A clinician portal, not an inbox
Your roster with severity at a glance, each patient's history over time, a printable report, and appointments you can propose or that the patient books into your availability, online or on site.
A crisis path you can audit
If a patient signals they are in danger, the session stops screening and offers help. The event is recorded so you can see it happened, when, and what was shown.
Roles that hold
A doctor sees only patients assigned to them or to their clinic, checked again every time a file is opened. Clinic admins manage their own clinic and nothing beyond it.
What joining looks like
- No cost and no commitment for the pilot
- Nothing to install, your patients use the web or their phone
- Your feedback decides what we build next
- FHIR records, so your data is never locked in
Twenty minutes, and you will know if it fits
Tell us how your practice screens today. We will show you what changes, and we will be honest about what EmpAItica does not do yet. No slides.
Common questions
Eight questions. A few minutes. Today.
You do not need an appointment to start, and you do not have to know what is wrong. Talk, and your doctor sees the result before your next visit.
